EIR Weekly Reflection - Week 5
Reflect on your leadership style. Have you noticed any changes in the last month? Are there any teachers who have style.qualities that you would like to emulate? Let them know.
My leadership style, if you are going by the four quadrants of leadership, is a relationship master: I emphasize caring; am excellent at building and sustaining community; work well on a team; great at building rapport, consensus, commitment and seeking feedback, and I have good support, praise and feel concern for others. Some downsides I have is that I may not take a unpopular stance if it puts a relationship at risk; can put so much emphasis on relationship that tasks and decision making fall behind; can forget or downplay my own needs, to my detriment.
I have noticed in the past month that I am much more likely to ask for help from others in order to problem solve or collaborate than I would have been at the start of EIR. I believe this is because I have more on my plate, and I have better relationships with the teachers than I did at the start of the placement.
There are teachers who I would like to emulate. Three come to mind immediately. First, Ms. K, who always loves her students deeply and cares about them and not just the work that they do. Second, the instructional team of Mr. S and Ms. G, the gym teachers that always are laughing and joking with the students, who humanize themselves to the students.
